The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide RNs, LPNs and other healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe and timely manner. Learn to react effectively in an emergency whether you work in a hospital or in-home clinical setting. This comprehensive class also includes basic First Aid training where noted and demonstrates techniques for infants, children and adults. One contact hour is awarded to RNs and LPNs.

Key Topics Covered

Important changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care will be covered including —

  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway

The course is taught by American Heart Association Instructors.

Cost for this class is $75.00 and includes the cost of the course and the textbook.  One Contact Hour is awarded to RNs and LPNs. The American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years.

An AHA BLS skills check-off is also available to those who have completed the online course.  Cost for this is $48.00.  The AHA Certificate of Completion must be submitted prior to attending check-off.
