Responsibilities and Duties:  The HIMS Supervisor provides leadership and supervision to the HIMS Department. Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of HIMS, the HIMS Supervisor is responsible for administrative and clerical matters relating to health information, and oversees the work of the Health Information Technicians, Health Information Assistants, and Health Information Interns. In addition to this supervisory role, the HIMS Supervisor is responsible for administrative matters, and for assuring that documents flow in a coordinated and efficient manner on behalf of all clinical divisions and departments. Additionally, the HIMS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of the Health Information Technicians/Assistants to ensure regulatory compliance and timely billing and reimbursement within the assigned team, and to incorporate customer service into daily job duties.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in health information management and medical billing as well as clinical coordination or clinical administrative support, preferably in a hospital, behavioral health, or private duty nursing setting required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with electronic health record, health information systems, and health care applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and MS Word systems.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, spelling, and record keeping required.
  • Coursework in medical terminology, coding, and billing required.
  • Culturally sensitive to and inclusive of diverse staff and client populations.
